Overview of the Sigma 85mm f1.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony

The 85mm f/1.4 DG DN lens for Sony E is a portrait-length full-frame lens from Sigma's Art-series that works with the E-mount mirrorless cameras. As a member of the Art line of lenses, this piece performs really well optically, has a bright aperture and is sleek in design.

Despite being designed for use with full-frame cameras, the Sigma 85mm DG DN Lens can also be used with the APS-C models for a 127.5mm equivalent focal length. The f/1.4 maximum aperture also provides for control over the depth of field thus enabling it's user to isolate the subject matter with selective focus.

Color fringing and chromatic aberrations are reduced greatly by the five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements in the lens design thus improving on color accuracy and clarity. One aspherical element and four high refractive index glass elements control spherical aberrations and distortion for increased sharpness and accurate rendering. Additionally, this lens has a Super Multi-Layer Coating to minimize ghosting and lens flares.

It has a stepping motor as well as an optimized AF algorithim, enabling for quiet, quick and smooth autofocusing. You can also control the lens manually via the aperture ring for smooth, silent aperture switching especially for video applications. The dedicated aperture ring lock switch prevents accidental shifting of the set aperture configuration. Finally, this lens produces a smooth and pleasing bokeh in images thanks to the rounded eleven-blade diaphragm in it. It is also weather-resistant as it has a brass bayonet.
