The FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is a wide-angled Sony lens with faster focusing performance, improved close-up shooting and enhanced control compared to its predecessor. It is much smaller and lighter with a bright f/2.8 constant aperture to allow its users to shoot in dim lightig conditions and with a shallow depth of field.

G Master Image Quality

High resolution results in detailed rendering of dynamic wide-angle scenes right out to the image edges throughout the 16-35 mm zoom range, even with the aperture wide open. Five aspherical elements include three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, and aberration is controlled for a superb blend of high resolution and gorgeous bokeh.

Faster AF and Floating Focus Mechanism

Floating focusing mechanism helps maintain image quality throughout the focusing range, which is especially important considering the impressive close-up performance of this lens. With a faster AF, the user enjoys improved focusing when working with fast-moving subjects, full AF is maintained even when shooting stopped down, and focus tracking is possible even when changing the zoom position. Internal focusing design promotes snappier, more responsive focusing performance and maintains the same center of gravity during lens extension and retraction.

Improved Control and Video Capabilities

The Focus breathing, focus shift, and axial shift during zooming have all been minimized to prevent unwanted movements and angle of view variations for greater compositional accuracy during recording. It also supports the Breathing Compensation function in select cine-line and Alpha cameras.

A large F2.8 maximum aperture, innovative optical design, and an advanced 11-blade aperture unit results to a smooth and beautiful bokeh that can add depth. Gorgeous circular bokeh can add extra appeal and expressive impact to a wide range of images.

Dust and moisture resistant design

The FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II offers improved dust and moisture resistance. All seams feature structural sealing, buttons and switches are fitted with silicone rubber gaskets, and a rubber ring seals the lens mount. These refinements work together to minimize the possibility of dust and moisture incursion in challenging outdoor environments.

Compact, Lightweight, and Robust Design

It is lighter and smaller than its predecessor making it highly portable and versatile option for a huge variety of shooting applications. With a manual aperture ring, tactile exposure control is possible. This ring can be de-clicked for smooth and silent iris pulls or it can be locked in the 'A' position for camera-based aperture switching. Included lens hood has been redesigned to complement the lens' sleek design by reducing both its diameter and length. Lastly, it features two programmable focus hold buttons and a focus mode switch for intuitive focus control.
